An Elegant White Deer Card

November 12, 2022

While the entire Poppystamps Christmas release is beautiful, I really love the layered look of the elegant Pondering Layered Deer die. There are so many lovely details and I knew an all-white deer would look just great. I cut all the deer parts from Neenah 110lb Classic Crest in Solar White. I colored a black circle on the base layer of the deer head, so the eye would appear black through the top layer. I adhered all the parts together to finish the deer.

My card base is Bazzill's Dark Kraft cardstock. I brought in a plaid background piece from the new Memory Box Christmas Jolly 6x6 paper pack. Next I cut a frame from thin, gold metallic paper from Hobby Lobby using the largest die from the Poppystamps Double Scalloped Stitched Frame.

I very much wanted to use a stamped sentiment from the Poppystamps Gilded Christmas Wishes stamp set, but I needed it to be all in one line, not stacked and inside of a frame like it was made. I turned to my craft knife. I carefully cut the words out of the plastic stamp and then arranged them on my acrylic block. I stamped with Versamark embossing ink and used Ranger's Princess Gold embossing powder to heat emboss the sentiment on Simon Says Stamp black cardstock. It worked perfectly. I was able to replace the word stamps into the frame portion of the stamp, so I can use it again as designed.

I cut the black cardstock just a little smaller than my gold frame so the plaid would show up all around the frame. Next, I splattered some Distress Mica Spray in Tarnished Brass onto the black square to add interest and a sense of snowfall. I adhered my reindeer to the black cardstock with foam adhesive below the sentiment and then adhered all the other parts into place.

I was very happy with the results of both my stamp "surgery" and the card. Are you crafting a lot this holiday season?
