Warm Cocoa and Snowflakes

December 14, 2022

One of my favorite things that comes with the cold winter weather is hot drinks: coffee, tea, cocoa and any other specialty drink treat you can think of. The Poppystamps stamp set Wintertime Sentiments has some adorable stamps that go very well with the new Snowflake Loop die set as well as the Adelaide Snowflakes set. I wanted to use these on a disposable coffee cup with either a Starbucks gift card or a packet of cocoa inside.

To make the white snowflakes stand out, I made a cup wrapper by simply laying my cup onto the backside of some 12" x 12" dark brown patterned paper from my stash and tracing the edges as I rolled the cup. I handcut the wrapper from the paper, and wrapped it around the cut, adhering it with glue so it couldn't slide off. The cup itself came in a package from Walmart, complete with black lid and kraft-paper sleeve. I slid the sleeve over the handmade wrapper. Next, I die cut a banner from Stampin' Up! Read Red cardstock using the banner die that comes with the Poppystamps Gilded Christmas Wishes Stamp and Die set.

Then I stamped the "All you need is cocoa..." stamp from the Poppystamps Wintertime Sentiments Stamp and Die set onto a piece of 80lb white cardstock and punched it out with a 1.75" circle punch. I used a 2" circle punch to cut out a circle from black cardstock. I layered these two as shown and then glued them onto the red banner strip.

It was time for snow (I rarely see it here in Austin). I cut the big loop from the Snowflake Loop die set from white cardstock and carefully adhered it with liquid glue, centering the sentiment in the middle. I had to hold it in place for about 20 seconds to make sure every little flourish got attached.

Next, I pulled out the Poppystamps Adelaide Snowflakes set and cut three different snowflakes from the same white cardstock. I adhered two to the cup and then had the idea to make the largest one hang like a tag from a red velvet ribbon I wrapped around the entire cup. I used a piece of linen thread to attach it to the red ribbon.

This was fun and easy to make. Sometimes the smallest gift can have a big impact when it is from the heart.

Merry Christmas and happy crafting!
