My snowflake dies are put away and my red and green cardstock is filed. Now is the perfect time to start on birthday cards for the month and the year. I am on the Poppystamps blog today as part of the monthly challenge team and our theme is birthday cards. I used some of my favorite Whittle dies to create this punny card.
I cut the two hippos from some blue cardstock. The innertube die which is part of the Floating Hippo die, I cut with the same pink as the flamingo.
The flamingo is in four pieces. I die cut the body twice - once in white and once in pink. I trimmed the beak off the pink one so the white one would show when they were layered. The flamingo die offers three leg styles and I picked two and cut them from white. Next I used a pale pink Copic marker to color the legs and the beak.
Then I layered everything and glued it together. I wanted to keep the color scheme tight so I only used two colors of cardstock along with white. I die cut the Poppystamps Marzipan Alphabet letters from the same two colors.
The background is the Poppystamps Gilded Plate die. I cut it from white cardstock just to give the background some texture. This die worked best when I used both my acrylic plates with my Big Kick machine. Normally I use my Magic Mat from Scrapbook.com but that didn't work with this one die. Finally I used a Poppystamps stamp to stamp "to you." I hand cut the speech bubble.
