A Great Adventure

August 11, 2021

Making this card was a "great adventure." I wanted to really challenge myself to make something detailed, with layers and dimension. I was also inspired by the artwork of many of the Tim Holtz "makers," especially my favorite, Emma Williams (@artymiss) of stickydots.blogspot.com. Her artwork is exquisite and while I can't produce anything that compares to hers, I wanted to try. I have a fraction as many Tim Holtz supplies as his stable of makers have. The ingredient list below is particularly long. To sum up my process, I started with a vintage hot air balloon cut file. I inked it with Distress Oxides, did some heat embossing, and added some embroidery floss. I put together all my cut files (balloon, birds, skyline) on top of a background that was inked with Distress Oxide, dry embossed, and then swiped over with a darker Distress Oxide. I absolutely love the look of both cards and scrapbook layouts that include cheesecloth and this scene called for it. I sewed some edges, layered and layered and added some Tim Holtz embellishments and some brads. The whole card is 7.5" square. On top of this long process, I am learning more about how to photograph my cards. It is a different set up from photographing food. I worked photographing popcorn for several years for a local shop owned by a friend.
